The research questions – or what we are trying to find out
The objectives of the learner research and system trials are:
- To test the prototype learning materials and systems we have developed
- To explore the ways in which young adults in the project’s target audience use and respond to the m-learning environment, materials and user interfaces - both individually and in groups
- To explore ways in which organisations can provide support and scaffolding for m-learners and how m-learning might be blended with, or embedded within, other teaching and learning delivery
- To explore ways in which the m-learning environment and materials can be used by organisations working with young adults to engage them in learning activities and whether this engagement leads to an increased interest in learning generally
- To evaluate if learning gains have been made by using m-learning materials
- To evaluate how m-learning products are used by learners and how their use affects skills, habits and attitudes to learning.
In analysing the information and feedback we receive from the COs, Mentors and Learners and in reporting our findings we will be addressing four questions:
- Can m-learning encourage young adults not currently in education or training to learn?
- Can m-learning improve young adults’ literacy or numeracy skills; change attitudes or behaviour (including their enthusiasm for learning); encourage their progression to further learning?
- What kind of learning support do m-learners need; how can this be provided; how can m-learning be integrated into education and training delivery?
- Young adults’ perceptions of their use of the m-learning system (mobile devices, learning materials and systems generally).
