Learning Management System
Hidden within the mPortal is a mobile interface onto a state-of-art Italian Learning Management System, IWT (Intelligent Web Teacher). It is a platform able to support multimodal mobile access and offer a complete set of learning experiences, services and models in order to best fit the complex mobile world.
Mobile Learning Space
The platform offers different experiences dependent on the features of the user's mobile device.- Users with HTML-enabled mobile devices can enter the learning space, see published courses and take part in them via their mobile browser. Users can collaborate with other learners or teachers via discussion forums and chat areas. Web content is dynamically adapted to the small screens.
- Users without HTML-enabled devices may interact with the system via SMS-messages. Courses are composed by SMS "pills" short textual Learning Objects. If these are used as quizzes, the learner can replying to the SMS directly.
- Last but not least, the system is able to provide also voice based interaction.
The learner is able to access the system with an usual phone call and to navigate
the IWT portal via voice. A synthesized human voice reads a simplified version of the portal content and the user can browse by dialling on the phone keyboard.
LIA
LIA - Learner Intelligent Advisor helps to create personalized courses for each learner. LIA uses three different models: the knowledge model, the learner's model, and the didactic model to automatically create, monitor and evaluate the learner's course.
KRT - Knowledge Representation Tool
KRT is a knowledge modelling tool used to define a conceptual map, the ontology, the taxonomy, resources and the relationships among them. Moreover the KRT is an efficient content package and metadata editor, allowing authors to create, visualize, modify, import and export learning objects in a standard format..
With the KRT you are able to:
- draw your conceptual map, the Ontology, starting from the definition of your dictionary. You can define all the relations between the concepts: hierarchical, requirements and suggested order relations;
- individuate or create all Learning Objects explaining the concepts;
- create Learning Objects metadata;
- create, import, manage and modify web deliverable Learning Object through an HTML editor;
- create, import, manage and modify Multiple Choice Test Learning Object;
- create, import, manage and modify SMS Learning Object;
- create, import, manage and modify SCORM package, also managable by the personalizing tool LIA
